Setting Camera Stereobase using the Seat of Pants Next, we move the camera laterally to the right using the camera motion x-axis control. (figure 2.) Click-drag to the left to move camera right. Watch how the landmarks A and B become misaligned as you move the camera over. A moves to the left more quickly than B. This horizontal separation is the disparity that defines depth. And here is the key rule of thumb to setting good parallax: move the camera position so that the horizontal disparity between A and B becomes about 10% of the width of the entire picture. If your screen is 600 pixels wide, move the camera until A and B have about 60 horizontal pixels between them. Note that both A and B shift in your view as you move the camera - but we are interested only in the horizontal shift of A relative to B, not in the total shift, which may be much greater.
